Resident Profile—Room for two and more at Shelby West

September 2015 resident profile

As if the move from Las Vegas to Michigan in a quick amount of time wasn’t daunting enough, retired pastor Conrad Jarrell and his wife Mary Dell Jarrell needed to find a home worthy of their 3,000 plus books.

Based on previous visits with long-time friends and residents of Shelby West, the Jarrell’s found the perfect home for themselves, their book collection and more.

The new Voyager home features four bedrooms and two baths and offers more than 1,790 square feet of living area. The Jarrell’s use the extra bedrooms for his and her offices and a guest bedroom. In addition to being voracious readers, the couple enjoy having company over and do so often in their spacious, open-planned kitchen and living room area. “We can easily entertain six couples. It is just so perfect. The home has everything we needed,” said Mary Dell Jarrell.

When new visitors do come over, they are always impressed with the well-maintained community, the couple says. “Shelby West is a beautiful neighborhood and so well planned out. With the lake and the mature wooded area, it’s just what we wanted,” Conrad Jarrell said.

“This is such a nice place to live for people starting out, retirees like us and everyone in between,” Jarrell said.

Shelby West does have something for everyone: brand new homes from well-known home manufactures like Adventure Homes, Harmony Homes and MHE; family-oriented amenities including planned resident activities, playground and recreation area, a 36-acre nature preserve and a swimming pool; access to blue-ribbon Utica Community Schools and wonderful neighbors. The community is conveniently located in prosperous Shelby Township, off 22 Mile between Van Dyke and Schoenherr Roads, close to shopping, dining, entertainment and recreational activities.
