Do you enjoy flowers and plants but dread the pruning and fertilizing that go with it? Here are some low maintenance plants to keep your yard looking spectacular, year after year!
  1. Spirea—a flowering shrub known for fast growth rate and ease of care. Depending on the variety, spirea can grow from 2 to 6 feet tall, so be sure to plant accordingly. Available in varying shades of pink and white, spirea grows best in full sun.
  2. Coneflowers—a daisy-like flower with raised centers come in several colors: pale yellow, white, light pink, magenta, orange, red and the most common purple. These flowers only require sun, well-drained soil and frequent watering (first year only).
  3. Day lilies—a type of lily that blooms for one day, however, each flower stem has a dozen buds, ensuring blooms for several weeks. Daylilies vary in bloom time (early, mid and late summer), range in height from six inches to three feet tall, and shape of petal. Available in shades of white, yellow, pink and purple. Plan your garden well and you could have daylilies blooming all summer long.
  4. Hostas—a hearty, low maintenance, flowering plant with lush foliage just thrives in shady gardens. There are numerous varieties to choose from in varying in shades of green, blue and some variegated. Plant in well drained soil and keep roots moist (not wet), and you’ll enjoy these plants for many years to come.
